Quebecers are being urged to take precautions as a special air quality statement is in effect Friday, with smoke from wildfires in the Canadian Prairies drifting into the province. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says in a statement that the smoke is causing poor air quality for the entire Greater Montreal area and is reducing visibility, with conditions potentially persisting into Saturday.

A new Quebec law now allows people to quickly obtain a court order to remove intimate images shared online. As of Wednesday, the new legislation allows victims to fill out a form online or at a courthouse and obtain an order from a judge requiring that the images or footage be taken down. In a statement, Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette's parliamentary assistant, Mathieu Lévesque, said that sharing intimate images without consent is a "scourge," particularly among teens.

Montreal police say they've arrested 13 people in connection with a series of extortion crimes targeting the owners of two downtown Montreal restaurants and their entourage. Police say the three main suspects are men aged 25, 34 and 39. Rozon, 70, testified for nearly an hour at the courthouse in Montreal on Monday afternoon, giving a lengthy recounting of his childhood and the early stages of his career in show business. His testimony is expected to continue over several days in the coming weeks in a Quebec Superior Court civil trial that began in December.
