A resident of Diamond Valley, Alta., a town roughly an hour south of Calgary, is prepared to gift Edmontonians what they've been longing for - a Stanley Cup. In this case, it's a replica. Wildfred Plester built his own Stanley Cup about 20 years ago when the Calgary Flames were in the running for the 2004 Cup. "The team at Black Diamond Industries is probably the only people that can make a claim that they've held onto a Stanley Cup for 21 years," Plester jokes.

Williams Lake council has voted not to declare a state of local emergency over public safety concerns. Last week, councillors asked staff to prepare a report on a potential state of emergency that could provide the B.C. city with temporary powers to address crime and disorder. That report concluded that council does have the authority to declare a state of emergency but feedback from emergency service agencies suggested that they did not see a benefit in doing so.

People from Peers were allowed to return home, five days after being ordered to evacuate the hamlet west of Edmonton due to a wildfire just a kilometre south in Yellowhead County. The January Creek wildfire started on the west side of Highway 32 and crossed over onto the east side on May 29. But some residents didn't all get the memo to flee last Thursday night. Glen Berkholtz, 84, doesn't have a cellphone that sends push emergency alerts and didn't realize there was an evacuation order.

Residents in a Glenora apartment complex are the latest victims in a series of service outages linked to Telus. Since May 25, Shelby Berezan says she's been without cable and internet services. She has informed Telus multiple times about the issue. "Yesterday, I was told to be patient. Well, after nine days, we've been patient enough," she said. Bezeran says not only are there issues within individual units, but some of the building's devices have been impacted, too.

The food bank in West Kelowna, B.C., has doubled in size to meet the growing needs of the community. "This is a huge day for us," said Trevor Moss, the Central Okanagan Food Bank's CEO. Located at 3710 Hoskins Rd,, the new 3,700-square-foot food bank was celebrated at a grand opening on Tuesday. The new space allows for increased food storage capabilities as more people access services. 'Year over year there was a 31 per cent increase in West Kelowna in clients accessing the food bank," Moss said.
