The Premier League has moved to tighten its financial rules amid an ongoing arbitration dispute with Leicester City. The wording around its profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) has been amended and appears to directly relate to the arbitration case centring around Leicester's losses during the three-year accounting period ending in 2022-23 and whether it fell under EFL or Premier League jurisdiction.

Luis Enrique says he is "delighted" Marco Asensio can play against Paris Saint-Germain for Aston Villa in their Champions League quarter-final tie. Asensio, 29, is on loan at the Premier League club from PSG and is available to line up against his parent club. Under UEFA rules, clubs are not allowed to apply "any influence" on which players opposition clubs select, whereas in the Premier League players loaned between clubs in the division cannot play against their parent club.

Sporting KC and manager Peter Vermes have mutually agreed to part ways, bringing to an end the longest tenure as head coach in MLS. The 58-year-old will also vacate his role as chief soccer officer while Kerry Zavagnin will be Sporting's interim head coach. Vermes was appointed sporting director in 2006 and head coach in 2009. He led Sporting to the 2013 MLS Cup as well as three U.S. Open Cup victories in 2012, 2015 and 2017.

Argentina have qualified for the 2026 World Cup and will defend their title in the expanded tournament next summer across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The South American nation, who won the 2022 World Cup by beating France on penalties in the final in Qatar led by Lionel Messi, join the three host nations alongside Japan, New Zealand and Iran in the 48-team competition.

Kirsty Coventry has been elected as the first woman president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The 41-year-old Zimbabwean was chosen over six other candidates, including Lord Sebastian Coe, the two-time 1500m Olympic gold medallist and president of World Athletics and Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr, the 65-year-old IOC vice-president and son of the seventh IOC president, Juan Antonio Samaranch. She will become the 10th president, succeeding Thomas Bach, who will remain in post until June.
