This year’s honoree is legendary tennis star and impactful sports figure Billie Jean King. “We felt it was important to support [JTCC CEO Ray Benton] and the JTCC which I know what they’ve been doing forever and how much they give back and how much they get people into the game,” King said. “And also help kids go to college.

ASHBURN, Va. (DC News Now) — With their final pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Washington Commanders selected running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt out of Arizona. Croskey-Merritt had an interesting end to his college career. After playing one game last season for Arizona, he was declared ineligible and did not attend the combine. (DC News Now) — UCLA linebacker Kain Medrano had a reason to keep up with the Commanders last season — his linebackers coach from 2022-23 Ken Norton Jr., became the Commanders LB coach in 2024. When the Commanders drafted Medrano in sixth round of the 2025 NFL draft, No. 205 overall, it wasn’t a surprise to Medrano, he said. Medrano is a fast and versatile player that can play multiple linebacker positions. He can also contribute on special teams.

In the 4th round, with the 128th overall pick, the Commanders selected Virginia Tech wide receiver Jaylin Lane. Lane played two seasons for the Hokies, totaling 79 receptions, 1,004 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns in that span. Before his time in Blacksburg, Lane played three seasons in Virginia Tech. Lane also returned kicks during his college career.
