WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Thursday marked the fourth day in a row that the District issued an “extreme heat alert,” with feel-like temperatures at or above 105 degrees. “Here it’s a little bit, I feel the humidity a little more, little sticky,” said Florence Harris Evans, who was visiting D.C. with her family Thursday. WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A 17-year-old is facing charges for reportedly being behind a deadly hit-and-run robbery in the District last month, prosecutors say. 55-year-old father and grandfather Donnel Phillips died back on May 7, and his family is speaking out as new details in the case come to light. “How do you, as a 17-year-old, get to decide that a father, a grandfather, doesn’t deserve to be here over $300?” said Phillips’s daughter, TyShia Johnson. “You did it with no remorse.

The market is the nation’s longest continuously operating open-air fish market, dating back to 1805, according to the Wharf’s website. It’s an outdoor job that’s subject to extreme temperatures year-round.

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Chairman Phil Mendelson filed new legislation Friday, pulling the RFK Stadium deal from the full 2026 budget and instead putting it forward as a standalone piece of legislation. “Separating this measure from the Budget Support Act enables the Council to hold a public hearing singularly focused on the proposal,” wrote Mendelson.
