Then, when she was halfway through a chemotherapy regimen last year, one of the two drugs she was taking became scarce. She said that no one involved could tell her exactly what had happened to the drug, carboplatin. Its disappearance was just one of many ongoing shortages in the U.S., often of critical medications.
