    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Atlantic hurricane season began on June 1st, and since last season, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced that they made some changes to their forecasting. The National Hurricane Center has made several updates to its forecast protocol and graphics in order to improve messaging, accuracy, and more advanced warning. According to the National Hurricane Center, the cone of uncertainty will be 3-5% smaller than in years past.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — For the first time since last fall, Middle Tennessee will see three consecutive days in the 90s. Does this count as a heat wave, or is this normal for this time of year? According to the National Weather Service office in New York City, a heat wave is defined as three consecutive days of 90° or higher. The News 2 Weather Authority team is forecasting temperatures of 90° or higher from Tuesday, June 3, through Thursday, June 5.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Not everyone will see storms on Sunday afternoon, but for those who do, they could be severe. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a level 1 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms for parts of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. In the green shaded area, some of the storms could be capable of producing wind gusts over 60 mph. Small hail is also possible, but unlikely, and tornadoes are not expected.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting an active Atlantic hurricane season in 2025, and like in 2024, we could see impacts here in Tennessee. The Atlantic hurricane season goes from June 1st to November 30th. During the typical season, there are 14 named storms, with seven of those strengthening to a hurricane, and three of them becoming major hurricanes.
