Players who join rugby’s proposed global grand prix-style competition will not be considered for England selection as the RFU is likely to stand firm over its commitment to the Premiership. The Times revealed this week that team owners from the Premier League, Formula 1 and the NFL have submitted bids to buy franchises in R360, which is backed by the 2003 World Cup winner Mike Tindall and due to be launched next year.

Team owners from the Premier League, Formula 1 and the NFL have submitted bids to buy franchises in the revolutionary global rugby union competition that is due to be launched next year, The Times understands. Taking inspiration from F1 and cricket’s Indian Premier League, the concept is for a grand prix-style travelling league that would feature eight men’s franchises and a four-team professional women’s competition.

Bath will host Bristol Bears in a Friday-night West Country derby that could sell out the Recreation Ground four times over. When the sides met in the league on May 10, Bristol’s nominal home game attracted more than 50,000 to the Principality Stadium.
