University of Mary Washington men’s soccer goalkeeper Freddy Rogers was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Male Scholar–Athlete of the Year on Wednesday afternoon. Rogers, having been named an academic All-American, a CSC Academic All-American and UMW’s Male Scholar–Athlete of the Year after posting a 3.9 GPA this past year, can now add another academic honor to his résumé.

A wild third inning propelled the Culpeper Cavaliers to an emphatic 15-2 win over the Winchester Royals in the Valley Baseball League on Tuesday night. Culpeper, now winners of three-straight and four of their last five games after a 2-10 start, scored 11 runs in the third to hop out to a 14-0 lead. Winchester (10-10) ended up committing three errors in the loss, including several in the third inning alone.

The Fredericksburg Nationals got their current home stand off to a hot start with a thrilling 10-9 walk-off win on Tuesday night against the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. Down 7-0 after the third inning, it looked like it was going to be all Kannapolis (32-38), but that quickly changed after a three-spot from Fredericksburg in the bottom of the fourth to start chipping away at the deficit.
