Friday, June 20, was Hagstrom Dossi's last day serving at the helm of the entirely grant-funded program before she retires and hands the reins to her longtime right-hand, Ocean Arellano.

A support group for people with Alzheimer’s, their families and caregivers is inviting the public to join them for a walk from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Standard Park in East Sonora to raise awareness about the disease. The walk coincides with the summer solstice on June 20, which is the longest day of the year with the most daylight.

For the first time, the Sonora City Council voted 3-1 Monday night to approve a proclamation recognizing June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Vice Mayor Andy Merrill, who put forward the proclamation, was joined by Mayor Ann Segerstrom and Councilwoman Bess Levine in support. Councilman Mark Plummer was opposed, while Councilman Stephen Opie was absent and didn’t vote. Opie had previously voiced opposition to such a proclamation at a meeting earlier this month.

With the start of the 76th annual Tuolumne Lumber Jubilee just a week away, organizers have revealed the grand marshal and queen contestants for this year’s three-day festival. Tuolumne County native Jim Armstrong, a longtime logger and wood-products entrepreneur, will serve as the grand marshal of this year’s event that begins Friday, June 20, and runs through Sunday, June 22.
