Mason Haines led the way for the Smithies offense, totaling 122 yards rushing on 24 carries. Nate Eberhardt led Tuslaw with 83 rushing yards and Ethan Haer passed for 154 yards. Rittman 35, Strasburg 22Artie Sonego had a huge day to start off his senior season, rushing for 244 yards on 27 carries.

    Nothing was going to stop Waynedale from winning its third straight district championship. The Golden Bears put together perhaps their most dominant performance during their three-year run of undefeated postseason play, dominating Columbia in a 17-1 Div. III district championship title game at Medina High School. Waynedale has now won 17 straight playoff games dating back to 2022.

    Dalton 7, New Middletown Springfield 2Seth Wyckoff has pitched a lot of great games during his career at Dalton. Tuesday's district semifinal against Springfield was some of his best work yet. The senior pitcher struck out 16 during a complete-game 7-2 win, sending the Bulldogs onto Thursday's Division IV district finals against Lake Center Christian at Bob Cene Park in Struthers.

    Norwayne never gave up. It didn't matter Canton Central Catholic jumped out to an early lead. It didn't matter that the Crusaders took another lead in the seventh inning. The Bobcats weren't about to let their season end. Lucas Dudte's single in the bottom of the eighth completed a gutsy 7-6 win in the Division III district semifinals to push Norwayne onto the district final in improbable fashion. The Bobcats will play Manchester in the district championship game Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Norwayne.

    Monday, May 20OHSAA GIRLS LACROSSE TOURNAMENTWooster 17, Avon Lake 11Wooster picked up a playoff win to advance to the Division II Region 5 quarterfinals. Three players — Jay-Cee Hackett (5), Carolyn Green (4) and Kylie Timko (4) — scored at least four goals as the Generals opened their postseason action with a win. Amber Street also added a pair of goals and Amelia Correll and Emily Williams scored as well. Timko added two assists while Sophie Burianek made seven saves in goal.
