(WPRI) - The Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns is teaming up with Rhode Island Resource Recovery to address the growing financial burden improper recycling practices have placed on taxpayers. Resource Recovery announced Tuesday that it has enacted a new fee structure of $20 per rejected ton of recycling, with a maximum of $250 per load.

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - The Pawtucket pyramid is coming down. Grace Voll, a spokesperson for the city, told 12 News that the Apex building's ziggurat roof, which is visible from I-95, is in the process of being removed. The pyramid-shaped department store was built in 1969 and has mostly sat vacant for years, other than a few nonprofits working out of the building.

Liam Dempsey was shot and killed by his own father on March 21, 2024. "I can't believe it's been a year already," said Karla Santizo, Dempsey's aunt. PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Hundreds of residents living at Providence's Manton Heights are speaking out after not having consistent hot water for more than a year. Johanny Dizoglio said she and her neighbors have been forced to shower elsewhere and boil their water to do dishes. "I shouldn't be doing that," Dizoglio said. "I should be able to come home and take a decent shower in my house."Manton Heights residents told 12 News that, although management is aware of the issue, nothing has been done.

(WPRI) - The timeline for Providence to regain control of its schools from the state remains up in the air as Mayor Brett Smiley and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) continue to butt heads over when the district should change hands. The district has been under state control since 2019. Smiley hopes to have the city regain control of its schools by July, but RIDE has made it clear the state will consider 2026 at the earliest.

The Providence Public School District celebrated the major milestone in its ongoing efforts to modernize the city's educational facilities with a ceremonial ribbon cutting Thursday afternoon. The district received $33.2 million from the state to renovate Classical High School.
