The Government has struck a deal to bring Europe’s first Universal theme park to Bedfordshire, which includes infrastructure upgrades and a fast-tracked planning process. The 476-acre resort, hailed a “fabulous opportunity” by one local councillor, is set to open in 2031 and attract 8.5m visitors in its first year. Universal expects the park, which will feature blockbuster rides, a 500-room hotel and a retail and entertainment complex, to generate nearly £50bn for the UK economy by 2055.

The NHS is sending health workers door-to-door to help detect illnesses before emergency care is needed. Community health and well-being workers are already deployed in 12 areas in England, with another 13 to follow.
