Tuesday was no different – The Free Press, along with partners at the American Communities Project at Michigan State University, met with voters in counties selected because they're home to a wide range of voters with varying lifestyles, experiences and ideas.

MANISTIQUE, Mich. – Lawn signs pepper the homes and businesses along US-2, lining the southern shores of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. But weeks ahead of the election, Hali Holt, owner of the Grind Coffee House wishes she could make her own political party. “I don’t really identify as any party,” said Holt. Instead, Holt fancies the thought that she could create her own breakaway party that aligns better with her personal values, such as women’s rights and lower taxes on her business.
