This year, as the Free Press crafted its coverage of the election and the issues shaping it, we spoke with voters across the state to deliver stories that reflected the needs, concerns and desires of Michigan’s diverse electorate. Tuesday was no different – The Free Press, along with partners at the American Communities Project at Michigan State University, met with voters in counties selected because they're home to a wide range of voters with varying lifestyles, experiences and ideas.

MANISTIQUE, Mich. – Lawn signs pepper the homes and businesses along US-2, lining the southern shores of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. But weeks ahead of the election, Hali Holt, owner of the Grind Coffee House wishes she could make her own political party. “I don’t really identify as any party,” said Holt. Instead, Holt fancies the thought that she could create her own breakaway party that aligns better with her personal values, such as women’s rights and lower taxes on her business.

August 27th, 2024 The BLUEBARN Theatre’s history began in the late 1980’s with graduates from the Professional Theatre Training Conservatory at the State University of New York at Purchase. Seeking to continue the deeply shared artistic aesthetic and practice that they had developed over their four years of conservatory training, and also to create theatre outside the constraints of New York City’s commercial market.

Creating a story with an AI aspect has been a special interest of writer and producer Clay Farris Naff for quite some time.

July 30th, 2024 The Omaha Fringe strives to bring the different members of the Omaha theatre community together for one open access and inclusive festival where theatre artists can experiment with new works and audiences can experience new theatrical movements. OFF takes place every year. Planning for each festival is something that Omaha Fringe Festival Executive Director Tamar Neumann says begins quite far in advance.
