The New York Giants returned to the field for another round of open OTA practices, but something felt off the moment drills began. While teammates went through warmups, third-round rookie Darius Alexander was present — yet noticeably missing something important. No helmet. No reps. Just standing off to the side as coaches moved through individual drills and team sessions, Pat Leonard of the NYDN reported.

The New York Yankees have been thriving without a key piece, but that could soon change in a big way. A sleeping giant is waking up in Tampa, and the buzz surrounding his return is beginning to build. Giancarlo Stanton, who hasn’t appeared in a game this season due to tendinitis in both elbows, is inching closer to activation. Eligible to return from the injured list back on March 27, Stanton has stayed sidelined while the Yankees have rolled forward.

It’s always best to have more trade targets than not, and the Yankees might’ve just lost one of the better ones that might’ve been available in July. That path involved bolstering their starting rotation before the trade deadline — a necessity, not a luxury. The Yankees had been closely monitoring Minnesota Twins ace Pablo Lopez as a potential top-of-the-rotation trade acquisition. With a 2.82 ERA over 60.2 innings and elite peripheral stats, he looked like the missing piece for October stability.

The Yankees knew life without Luke Weaver would be tough — they just didn’t expect it to feel this fragile so quickly. Losing a dominant closer is like losing your safety net on a high-wire act — you feel every wobble more than ever. Before straining his hamstring, Luke Weaver had been nearly automatic in high-leverage situations, boasting a 1.05 ERA over 25.2 innings. He wasn’t just efficient — he was dependable, cool under pressure, and striking out batters at an elite rate.

When Jazz Chisholm returned to the Yankees’ lineup Tuesday night, it was like rearranging pieces on a chessboard mid-game. He wasn’t just a spark — he triggered a complete infield shuffle, exposing the weak links still hanging on by a thread. The Yankees wasted no time plugging Chisholm into the third base spot, pushing both Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas out of the picture. Vivas, a lefty bat, was demoted — a logical move given Chisholm also swings from the left side and offers far more upside.

RT @FiresideGiants: Jaxson Dart is already making a strong impression 🙌 #NYGiants https://t.co/zify6g9Jkv

Holy shit what a DART! You just have to love how confident he is throwing the ball -- he wants the difficult throws.

Jalin Hyatt CLEARLY made it a priority to avoid getting absolutely cooked at the beginning of his routes off LOS -- more strength and balance should help him hand fight and stay balanced. If he kept his speed the same, he's in a much better spot heading into 2025!

Darius Slayton says that WR Jalin Hyatt put on 15-20 pounds this offseason 👀
