This review provides the first historical summary of tick and animal surveillance research as it pertains to Lyme disease in Canada. The rapid invasion of Ixodes ticks and Borrelia burgdorferi in Canada shows how Lyme disease became a growing One Health concern over the span of five decades. The reviewed surveillance studies identify areas of Ixodes and Borrelia burgdorferi emergence and endemicity, which match the areas in Canada that are high risk for Lyme disease.
