Building on this, the home’s open-plan layout invites greenery and natural light into all areas, enhanced by the steel framing internally and externally. A connection to nature is further accented by the colour green – be it the sage green joinery that runs the length of the ‘show’ kitchen or the Envious Green stone kitchen island sourced from G-Lux.

Architecture and interior design studio Cera Stribley reimagine what’s possible with a residential extension by descending below ground in Melbourne’s inner-east and expanding onto the adjacent plot. The project delivers a new underground indoor lap pool, golf room, gym, basement bar and lounge for adults and kids to enjoy. Cera Stribley’s head of interior design, Jessica Coulter, accurately describes the new basement design as “Mad Men meets Batcave”.

The PaletteA muted, natural material palette grounds the building within the surrounding greenery. The bricks, paired with the timber flooring and shiplap whitewash timber ceiling, soften the home’s interior, providing a cohesive, modern and calm backdrop for the family’s life, art and furniture. The materiality and use of timber in the design are further complimented by the texturally rich terrazzo kitchen benchtop and feature wall in striking Signorino Bianco Neve.
