The New School’s accreditation status is currently at a non-compliance warning after the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) deemed the university failed to comply with two of the seven commission standards, according to a mandated statement sent by President Joel Towers and Renee T. White, provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs, on Dec. 2. TNS did not meet the criteria for Standards V and VI.

After 20 years at The New School, Joel Towers stepped into a new role as the 10th president of TNS this semester. President Towers began his time at TNS in 2004 as a full-time faculty member and the first director of sustainable design and urban ecology at Parsons School of Design. Five years later, a nomination from other faculty saw him appointed dean of Parsons. After another nomination from his colleagues officially brought him the title of university president on Aug.

Faculty of The New School organized a solidarity encampment in the University Center today at 2 p.m. The encampment will not end until their demands are met, according to their Instagram. Faculty at the encampment are demanding divestment, an academic boycott of all Israeli institutions, dismissal of disciplinary charges against students, the end of NYPD presence on campus, and agree to hold an election with the New School Student Workers Union (NewSWU).
