The University Student Senate (USS) spent over 90% of their budget by the end of February, according to an audit summary reviewed by the New School Free Press. Their budget was largely spent internally. The university conducted an audit of USS spending between July 2024 to February 2025, after the current Director of Finance (DoF), Samera Shim, requested an up-to-date balance of senate funds. NSFP obtained a document prepared by Shim summarizing the university’s findings.

The New School’s Board of Trustees has voted against divestment from military industry companies, not accepting the Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility (ACIR) recommendation, according to an email from President Joel Towers reflecting on the past year.

After 20 years at The New School, Joel Towers stepped into a new role as the 10th president of TNS this semester. President Towers began his time at TNS in 2004 as a full-time faculty member and the first director of sustainable design and urban ecology at Parsons School of Design.
