The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned of a suspected new outbreak of the Ebola-like Marburg virus in north-west Tanzania, saying that at least eight people have already been killed by the disease. On Tuesday, the WHO said that nine suspected cases of Marburg were reported in the region of Kagera over the last five days. "We would expect further cases in the coming days as disease surveillance improves," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X.

Abdul Nondo has been campaigning in the west of the country before travelling to Dar es Salaam [ACT Wazalendo]Police in Tanzania are investigating the reported kidnapping of opposition youth leader Abdul Nondo. The ACT Wazalendo party said Nondo was abducted by unknown assailants from a bus station in the main city, Dar es Salaam. Police confirmed that a man was taken from the bus station in the early hours of Sunday by two individuals traveling in a white four-wheel-drive vehicle.

A man in Tanzania's biggest city, Dar es Salaam, has told the BBC he is waiting to hear news of his mother, who remains trapped two days after a building collapsed. Rescuers have so far pulled 86 people from the rubble alive but 16 are known to have died, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said. Rescue teams in Tanzania say they have managed to establish contact with people who are still trapped a day after a four-storey building collapsed in the biggest city, Dar es Salaam. They are managing to send them supplies of water, glucose and oxygen through small gaps in the debris. Tapping sounds have been heard from inside the building in the city's busy Kariakoo market area. Five people are known to have died, while 77 have so far been brought out alive.
