TULSA, Okla. (KFOR) — On Tuesday, in Tulsa County District Court, one of Oklahoma’s most high-profile inmates was back in court, fighting for her freedom. April Wilkens is serving a life sentence for the murder of her abusive ex-boyfriend in Tulsa in 1998. Wilkens has become one of the faces of the Oklahoma Survivors’ Act, a new law passed last year to allow victims of domestic violence to be sentenced with their abuse as a consideration.

PAYNE COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) – Earlier this year, Stillwater was devastated by wildfires. More than fifty homes in Payne County were destroyed, and among them was the home of a very special librarian. When the flames swept through the Crosswinds neighborhood in Stillwater, fire incinerated ten houses on one street, including the home of a loyal educator. “During the wildfires in March, her house burned down, and she wasn’t even home when it happened,” said Morganne Clyburn.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Oklahoma holds the distinction of being responsible for the longest wrongful conviction incarceration in U.S. history; Glynn Simmons spent almost 50 years behind bars for a murder he did not commit. KFOR has have been reporting on Simmons’ case for more than 20 years. In 2023, when he was finally released from prison, the state of Oklahoma allowed for $175,000 for victims of wrongful incarceration.

Every spring in every school, standardized testing tightens its grip. “It’s just like a really stressful time for them,” said Ridgeview Elementary parent, Juliana Gutierrez. Most kids get very nervous about state testing week, especially the third and fourth graders. “They do get anxious about the state testing,” said Ridgeview Principal, Michael Lisenby.
