NORMAN — The working relationship between Oklahoma coach Brent Venables and general manager Jim Nagy is about to take an important step. Nagy was hired in February to build an NFL-style front office in Norman. Thus far, he’s been hard at work evaluating OU’s roster and building out his operation. But with the spring transfer portal window now open, Venables and Nagy can begin collaborating to put the final touches on the Sooners’ 2025 roster.

The spring transfer portal window is finally open, allowing college football programs one final stretch to bolster their roster for 2025. Like most head coaches across the country, Oklahoma’s Brent Venables will be on the hunt to find a few final pieces to put his roster over the edge. But the spring portal window will also represent the start of a new era in Norman. It’s the first time Venables will be able to make additions with new general manager Jim Nagy, who was hired in February.

DeMarco Murray upgraded his position group with one of the best running backs available in the transfer portal. Former Cal running back Jaydn Ott announced his commitment to Oklahoma, the program announced on Instagram on Tuesday. In three years on the West Coast, Ott totaled 2,597 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns, adding 736 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. Cal's Jaydn Ott is 2025 draft's "if you give him a crease" runner. Explosive smooth-strider is a true 𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙧𝙪𝙣 𝙝𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧.

A third Sooner is reportedly set to enter the transfer portal this spring. Running back Sam Franklin will leave Oklahoma after one season, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported on Tuesday. Franklin arrived in Norman last year from UT Martin, but he failed to make an impact. He carried the ball just 18 times for 132 yards in 2024. He also caught five catches for 18 yards. Franklin returned six kickoffs for 133 yards as well.
