The rate has risen steadily since 2022, and growth is concentrated among young men. It’s a particularly difficult time for young people to be establishing their working lives: with their education disrupted by the pandemic, and in the midst of a cost of living crisis preceded by over a decade of wage stagnation.

    Bruce Arthur Chang, a six-year-old boy from Westmount, Que., was named Grand Champion of Canada at the Universal Concept of Arithmetic System (UCMAS) Canadian national competition, which was held earlier this month in Laval. The competition allowed participants to use their heads and an abacus to solve additions and substractions. In only eight minutes, students had to solve 150 equations.

    The Granby Zoo announced Wednesday that it welcomed a new member to its mandrill family on May 24. The baby mandrill was the first one born there since 2021. Known for their bright red and blue faces, mandrills are the world's largest and most colourful monkeys and are native to the rainforests of equatorial Africa. The zoo stated that the arrival of the baby mandrill is a glimmer of hope for the sustainability of the species' population.

    An air-conditioning company in Montreal says it is unable to call its clients back after a truck ran into its telephone and internet lines on Wednesday. According to Montreal police (SPVM), the incident happened at 9:46 a.m. on Paré Street in the Town of Mount Royal. As of 12:30 p.m., Guaranteed Industries says it still doesn’t have access to its internet and telephone services. “It doesn’t look very good,” said Cathy Sciangula, vice-president of Guaranteed Industries.
