WACO, Texas — Janee Miller woke up bright and early on Thanksgiving to spend her morning giving back to her community as a volunteer with Friends for Life. "I think that it's good for the soul," she told 25 News. GATESVILLE, Texas — Robert Bauer is a Field Lieutenant at the Alfred Hughes unit in Gatesville. He normally works with inmates in the field growing the food they serve in the prison. "The inmates grow all of the crops here in the unit," Bauer told 25 News. "Everything we grow goes straight back into the kitchen."On June 15, he had an encounter he'd only trained for. "Around 2:00 in the afternoon, an inmate came over the rec yard fence and took off running," Lt. Bauer said.

Brian and Lindsey Eubanks adoption of their son Garrett was one of them. "He's been living with us for about two years and everything is official and final today," Brian told 25 News.

WACO, Texas — Roughly 6,000 Americans are diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALSeach year. It most commonly impacts white males and a sixth of all those who are diagnosed are veterans. Debbie Mares is a Waco resident whose husband Abel was one of those veterans. "I still miss him. It's been a year, but I am going on because I know I am going to see him again," she told 25 News. "I have this hope that I am going to see him again."Abel served in the army during Vietnam.

"I feel like everyone needs to do their part, even people my age," she told 25 News. WACO, Texas — The Salvation Army red kettle drivehas returned to store fronts of Waco for another holiday season. Volunteers were outside eight locations on Friday to kick off the annual fundraiser which has been around since 1891. "It's a nice holiday experience and it puts money in the Salvation Army's account so we can help people all year around," Major James Taylor told 25 News. The money raised these next six weeks will help fund their organization for all of next year.

TEMPLE, Texas — Art therapy has been known to help people through a number of mental health troubles, including post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. At Help Heal Veterans in Temple, they give local vets the chance to be creative in a supportive environment and now they're showing off some of their best work. Robert Bardin retired from the Army in 2015 and now spends a lot of his time making Perler bead art at the facility.
