    Residents in Dunstable and Houghton Regis are being encouraged to take advantage of improvements to local bus services starting this June, which will see new buses, routes and improved frequencies. Local MP Alex Mayer hopped aboard one of the brand-new buses in Linmere. People living in the new community will for the first time have a service running every 15-minutes connecting them to Houghton Regis and Luton seven days a week. It is part of an £9.7 million investment in local buses by Arriva.

    Leighton Buzzard Post Office will remain open, it was confirmed today. Local MP Alex Mayer hailed the news as “a good day for Leighton Buzzard” as the Post Office revealed that an independent stationery retailer UOE will take over the running of the branch. There had been fears the post office could be axed in a nationwide shake-up of the UK’s Crown Post Offices.

It means the school now has capacity for 420 pupils following its expansion into the neighbouring former Universal Technical College building on the Kingsland Campus. The additional space will help to meet growing local demand for specialist education provision.

    Smaller local renewable energy projects will be able to connect to the grid more quickly, thanks to a rule change secured with the support of local MP Alex Mayer. The energy regulator Ofgem has approved a key rule change that will speed up connections for community energy schemes and other local clean energy projects. Under the new rules, projects under 5 megawatts (MW) will no longer be required to undergo a full “Transmission Impact Assessment”.
