New Jersey's own Joe P has been a frequent FUV Live performer, appearing in Studio A and Hill Country in the past to play songs and talk about his EPs, 2021's Emily Can’t Sing and 2022's French Blonde. The musician, real name Joe Parella, released his debut album, Garden State Vampire, earlier this year. To celebrate that album, he headed to Racket for an "FUV Live" set joined by his band: bassist Tony Yebra, guitarist James Waltsak and drummer Santo Rizzolo.

New Jersey multi-instrumentalist Pat Van Dyke produces songs for himself and for others as a session player, producer and composer. His own music, a deep catalog of instrumental solo work, soulfully floats around the perimeters of jazz and hip hop, including 2018's Hello, Summer, a favorite of mine. Van Dyke really soars with his collaborations too, and one artist who catches his vibe really well is Ansley Stewart, a Georgia-based Americana and soul songwriter.

Tune-Yards' Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner are back with a bouncy sixth album, Better Dreaming. This straight-up dance record was partially inspired by the pair's need to move their bodies and shake off the stillness of Covid isolation. Better Dreaming's songs are also Garbus and Brenner's reaction to the abundance of negativity flowing throughout the world.

This FUV Live session is also available as a podcast, "FUV Live Sessions." We're elevating WFUV's long history of live sessions and interviews via a podcast that you can find on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Amazon Podcasts. New episodes drop every Monday. The chemistry between Czech singer-songwriter Markéta Irglová and her Irish counterpart, Glen Hansard, of The Swell Season is undeniable.

Harrison Cohen is the mastermind behind DUUNES. The singer, songwriter and guitarist writes incredibly catchy indie rock jams that fit nicely on a playlist with bands like The Killers, Kings of Leon, Cold War Kids and Cage the Elephant (Cohen actually does a great cover of the latter's "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" which went viral on TikTok). Great covers aside, I was first drawn to Cohen's raucous banger "Fever Dream," his very first single, released in 2023.
