St Kilda, rising starkly from the sea contains the westernmost island of the Outer Hebrides. It is the UK’s only dual UNESCO World Heritage Site, designated for both its natural and cultural significance. Warming land and sea temperatures, more frequent severe storms, and the changes to the ocean currents around St Kilda are the three biggest threats identified by The National Trust for Scotland in their March 2024 Climate Vulnerability Index (CVI) report.

Spring. Even the name makes me smile, adds a lilt to my step, and an occasional jump for the sheer fun of jumping. Spring. When I stretch and say, enough of these dark days, let’s enjoy the first flush of spring. Outside is warm enough, and if not, there will be a fire someplace close enough to warm us through. What sounds to be heard – birds chirping their joy. Cheeky robins seeking food from humans as they have done for a millennium and more.
