The Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation has agreed to receive an advance payment of $30 million from the Government of Canada for a claim regarding the surrender of land in Treaties 22 and 23, after years of negotiation. The payment is to be put toward a future resolution of the claim, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada announced Sunday.
