Last fall, PSU’s theater program introduced a production called “Y/Ours: The Work of Mutual Aid in a (Lonely) Democracy.” The official web page describes it as “a play devised, performed, and designed by PSU students.” This year, the production will be devised for a second time, alongside the course titled “Devising Social Justice,” which explores topics related to social justice and its role in curating compassion and understanding within our communities.

40 minutes out of Portland lies the tallest waterfall in Oregon—Multnomah Falls. On April 14, three Portland State Vanguard editors and friends ventured out to hike to the top. While OregonHikers.org puts this trail as 2.4 miles, the way up consists of at least 11 steep switchbacks—an elevation gain of 870 ft. It’s probably best to skip the hike to the overlook if one is afraid of heights. While on the trek, we took frequent breaks to allow everyone to catch their breath.

The updated 2024–2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) recently became available. According to CNN, these changes have been in the works for quite some time. The United States Department of Education claims that the changes expand eligibility for financial aid—including for Pell Grants—and have shortened the questions required to complete the form for some users.
