The cosmetology students from the Huntingdon County Career and Technology Center (HCCTC) with their remarkable initiative and determination, took their passion for beauty education to new heights. The students, led by their cosmetology instructor, Pam McPhatter, fundraised and planned a five-day trip to New York City, to attend the prestigious International Beauty Show (IBS) at the Javits Convention Center from March 1-5.

SNELLVILLE Ga. (BP) – The Church on Main will not soon forget Hannah’s baptism. A 15-year-old with cerebral palsy, Hannah was nonverbal and communicated through a device that tracked her eye movements and generated speech for her. Through that device, she told her mother she had committed her life to Christ and wanted to be baptized. The baptism was tricky. Because Hannah is unable to close off her airways, she could not be submerged in the church’s normal baptistry.

There is no doubt that the Huntingdon County Career and Technology Center (HCCTC) has many talented and skilled students; not only are students learning in a technical education program, but they can also gain and utilize leadership abilities. One student has demonstrated that with persistence and hard work, he can accomplish such a task. Kendon Helman had the honor of being elected the 2023-2024 SkillsUSA Pennsylvania state vice president.

Christmas, a season for spending time with family and friends, giving gifts and great food, of course. For many people, this is what Christmas means to them. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, more than 50% of nursing home residents have no close relatives and 46 % have no living children. An estimated 60% of nursing home residents never have visitors resulting in feelings of loneliness and isolation during Christmas.

Thoughts and emotions ranged from genuinely excited to unbelievably anxious as 11 students from the Huntingdon County Career and Technology Center (HCCTC) traveled to the SkillsUSA Central Regional Leadership Conference in Gettysburg Nov. 8-10. As recently elected officers, these dynamos were going to meet students from 14 other career and technical schools and learn to be leadership legends.
