With traditional Chinese opera reverberating across the room and lions weaving energetically through the crowd, the Palo Alto community welcomed the Year of the Snake yesterday at Palo Alto’s Mitchell Park Community Center. Hosting over 500 people of all ages, the event’s goal was to celebrate the different cultures across town, according to event coordinator Alicia Hulten.

Kamhi said her campaign focuses on enhancing student safety and mental health resources. “I believe very strongly in investing in mental health services,” Kamhi said in a Sept. 5 interview with The Paly Voice.

Palo Alto High School students are in for a night of glam and games at the “Casino Night” themed Homecoming dance outdoors at 7 p.m. Saturday on campus at Centennial Plaza. According to Associated Student Body Social Commissioner Jessica Wong, this year’s dance will feature new entertainment options for drinks and games, with more space for the activities. “There will be many differences including an indoor section,” Wong said.

A potato sack race. A human-sized hamster ball contest. A three-legged race combined with the goal of balancing an egg on a spoon. These were the challenges part of a relay race faced by Palo Alto High School students on Day 3 of Spirit Week in Earl Hansen Viking Stadium. Although the freshmen won the game at the rally, the seniors are still in the overall lead for the day, with 4600 points.

From college library tutor to first-time math teacher, Alexander Dade is beginning the 2024-25 school year at Palo Alto High School with an Expo-marker in hand and equations filling the board. Dade steps into the Paly math community teaching Geometry and Analysis Honors. According to Dade, he wants to create a strong learning environment for his students as he navigates the school year his first year as a teacher.
