OREGON – Police said a 56-year-old Leaf River woman charged with aggravated battery has been arrested two additional times for going after the same person, all within an eight-day span. Silvia L. Some states are steadily chipping away at longstanding bans on Sunday hunting, and there's a push to overturn the laws in Maine and Massachusetts, the final two states with full bans. Maine’s highest court is considering a lawsuit asking whether the state's 19th century law, which prevents hunting big game animals such as deer, moose and turkeys on Sundays, is still necessary.

DeKALB – With a deadline looming and dozens of concerned residents awaiting a decision, the DeKalb School District 428 board on Thursday adopted its 2023 property tax levy which likely won’t bring with it an uptick on many residents’ bills come spring. The board voted unanimously following weeks of back and forth between members of the public and the district. Nearly a dozen people, including some city of DeKalb officials, turned out to speak during the special meeting.

Carus LLC in La Salle reported a material spill Wednesday during a third-party vendor’s bin removal at its manufacturing plant. The company said in a Wednesday social media post immediate action was taken to clean up the spill and the company said there is no impact on the environment. The spill was of non-hazardous dilute sodium permanganate byproduct from one of our manufacturing processes, said Lyndsay Bliss, vice president of Human Resources at Carus LLC. Carus notified the city of La Salle.

SYCAMORE – The nearly $120,000 Sycamore property owners were erroneously taxed this year will be returned via rebate checks in 2024, after city officials blamed the taxation error on an “administrative issue.”A Daily Chronicle review of tax records found Sycamore overtaxed its residents by nearly $120,000 on their 2022 city property tax bills, taxing them at a higher rate than what the City Council approved.

DIXON – Stupor Bowl 2024, the annual fundraiser for the Dixon Public Schools Foundation, is slated to start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Reagan Middle School. The event brings together up to 30 local teams for a fun trivia competition. Ever since the first Stupor Bowl in 1997, the event falls on the day before the NFL Super Bowl.
