INTRODUCTION In 2023, approximately 7.19 million people in the United Kingdom are estimated to have chronic kidney disease (CKD) which represents more than 10% of the UK population (KRUK, 2023). Globally CKD is estimated to effect 13% of the population and by 2040 is predicted to be the fifth leading cause of lost life years (Kovesdy, 2022; Wen et al., 2022). The management of kidney disease is complex and varied depending on the degree of kidney failure.
