LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A mother at Florida Gulf Coast University opened up about her incredible journey of navigating motherhood, a full-time job, and the pursuit of education. Sometimes the right time to start a family finds you, like it did for Gwen Salata. “When you’re young, you make dumb decisions, and my mom said don’t wait till you’re older to do these things because it’s going to be a lot harder, especially if you have a family,” Salata said.

Matthew Losey, Creative Commons Lab Coordinator at FGCU, says the Makerspace is a hands-on learning environment. From design stations and 3D printers to a Glowforge, almost anything is possible at FGCU’s Makerspace.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — We’ve all heard the old saying, ‘Beauty is pain’, but this latest beauty trend crosses the line. It’s called “bone smashing”, and it’s just about as bad as it sounds. Dr. Michael Kim, a Fort Myers plastic surgeon, said, “Interestingly, I vaguely heard of it, then I asked my teenage kids, and apparently, it’s (bone-smashing trend) very popular on TikTok.”The trend spread on TikTok encourages young people to hit themselves in the face to cause fractures on purpose.

Today is known as Giving Tuesday. It’s a global movement that lands on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving every year. Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for people and businesses in all communities to come together for a bigger purpose, giving back. In our area, a few organizations are doing the same thing. United Way of Collier and the Keys merged about three years ago to tackle community and even environmental needs.
