Radio New Zealand (RNZ)

Radio New Zealand is a public service radio broadcaster and a Crown entity established by the Radio New Zealand Act of 1995. It runs two main networks: Radio New Zealand National, which focuses on news, current affairs, and arts, and Radio New Zealand Concert, dedicated to classical music and jazz. Both networks receive full funding from New Zealand on Air. Since 2014, the organization has placed greater emphasis on creating digital content across audio, video, and written formats. This organization is vital to public broadcasting in New Zealand. By law, it is tasked with managing the Radio New Zealand International Pacific shortwave service. Additionally, under the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act of 2002, it serves as a critical utility during emergencies. The New Zealand Parliament also provides complete funding for its AM Network, which broadcasts Parliamentary sessions.

The government will remove extra funding for Māori and Pacific enrolments in vocational courses, and trim funding for workplace training. The Tertiary Education Commission told institutions this week it was "reprioritising a small amount - approximately 8 percent - of learner component funding towards provider-based delivery rates, through the removal of Māori and Pacific learners as an eligible category".

I was wondering, is it better to invest more in your KiwiSaver or into your mortgage? We are lucky and have a little bit of extra cash every pay, so we have been making additional mortgage repayments. With the upcoming changes to KiwiSaver, we won't be able to continue to do this if we don't opt out. What is the better option? My thinking is the lower the mortgage, the less interest we pay, which would see us better off in the long term.

Foreign students paid $1 billion in fees last year and more than half that money went to universities. The figures were supplied to the Education Ministry by providers, as part of their reporting for the export education levy. They showed 74,990 international students in New Zealand last year, including 18,020 at schools and more than 25,880 at universities. Their fees totalled $1.085b, about $100m less than the pre-pandemic years of 2018 and 2019.

There is something electric in the air. It is a feeling, a movement, a beat. It is called Synthony. Born in New Zealand from a one-off idea back in 2016, Synthony has gone from an ambitious fusion of classical music and electronic dance hits to a global phenomenon, and it is not slowing down.
