Radio New Zealand (RNZ)

Radio New Zealand is a public service radio broadcaster and a Crown entity established by the Radio New Zealand Act of 1995. It runs two main networks: Radio New Zealand National, which focuses on news, current affairs, and arts, and Radio New Zealand Concert, dedicated to classical music and jazz. Both networks receive full funding from New Zealand on Air. Since 2014, the organization has placed greater emphasis on creating digital content across audio, video, and written formats. This organization is vital to public broadcasting in New Zealand. By law, it is tasked with managing the Radio New Zealand International Pacific shortwave service. Additionally, under the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act of 2002, it serves as a critical utility during emergencies. The New Zealand Parliament also provides complete funding for its AM Network, which broadcasts Parliamentary sessions.

The United Nations' aid co-ordination office (OCHA) says people in Gaza are likely facing the worst humanitarian crisis since fighting escalated in 2023. Israel barred aid and commercial supplies from entering the Strip on 18 March when it began renewed strikes on the Palestinian territory following a brief ceasefire with Hamas. In its latest update, OCHA said the blockade had seen a significant shortage of essential commodities and food prices surge by up to 700 percent.

Black Ferns legend Portia Woodman-Wickliffe says the challenge winning back to back World Cups when the women's game is more competitive than ever, helped lure her out of retirement. The Black Ferns World Cup campaign has received a major boost, with Woodman-Wickliffe signing an eight-month contract with New Zealand Rugby. Woodman-Wickliffe announced her international retirement in July last year, after winning her second Olympic gold medal with the Black Ferns Sevens in Paris.

Teacher education providers warn there is strong evidence the timing of a new maths test for would-be primary teaching students will halve enrolments in some courses, worsening teacher shortages. The Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT) will become a pre-requisite for entry to one-year English-medium postgraduate programmes next year, and for multi-year programmes such as Bachelor's degrees in 2027.

The Stars' new Australian recruit says she has no regrets about taking on what she sees as the 'netball establishment' across the Tasman. Defender Remi Kamo became the first Super Netball player to lodge an official complaint with Netball Australia last year, claiming there was a toxic culture at her Queensland Firebirds club and that it failed to support the well-being of athletes.

Tauranga man Scott Koster says it's "tone deaf" for Air New Zealand to be showing off its new uniforms at the same time that many travellers are facing particularly high airfares. He has been trying to fly his daughter back to university in Wellington and said it was currently cheaper for her to take a bus to Auckland, an Uber to the airport and then fly Jetstar to Wellington than it was to fly on Air New Zealand from Tauranga to Wellington.
