CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The Historic Preservation Commission is hosting a tour and presentation about a historic school building in honor of Historic Preservation Month. This year, the commission will host an event at the Kellerman Foundation’s new home in the historic Lorimier School building. CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - The county emergency management’s recovery team will hold a volunteer workday for the Delta area following a tornado in early April. According to the Cape Girardeau County Emergency Management Agency, they will be removing debris and helping residents clean up on May 17. You can sign up by clicking here. Governor Mike Kehoe appointed the following 10 people:Matt Davis, of Eldon, is a dedicated educational leader with more than 25 years of experience in the Missouri school system, including 17 years as superintendent of Eldon School District.
Cape Girardeau woman accused of shooting another woman in the head

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - A woman is accused of shooting another woman in the head just before midnight on Sunday, May 11. Cacey Bright, 59, of Cape Girardeau, was charged with felony first-degree domestic assault and felony armed criminal action. She is currently being held at the Cape Girardeau City Jail on a $1 million cash-only bond. According to the Cape Girardeau County prosecuting attorney’s office, the victim is a 21-year-old Cape Girardeau resident.
3-vehicle crash led to fire on Hwy. 60 in McCracken Co.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) - A three-vehicle crash led to one of the vehicles catching fire on Highway 60 in McCracken County. According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the intersection of U.S. Highway 60 and Old U.S. Highway 60 around 8:24 p.m. on Friday, May 9. While en route, deputies learned one of the vehicles was blocking the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 60 and was on fire.

MARION, Ill. (KFVS) - Police say they found 10 sex offenders violating their registration and two who were “non-compliant” during a recent check in Marion. According to the Marion Police Department, the registered sexual offender compliance check was on May 6. It’s part of an initiative through the Adam Walsh Child Protection Safety Act. Members of the police department’s crime suppression, narcotics, investigations and patrol units worked with the United States Marshal Service for the check.
SEMO board approves 90-credit Bachelor of Science in criminal justice

(KFVS) - The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Governors approved the state’s first 90-credit Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, and the changes will now need to be approved by a state board. According to the university, the new redesigned program reduces the overall credit requirement from 120 to 90 hours.

The Board of Governors approved the partnership with the Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority. The agreement moves campus shuttle operations to CGCTA. It will start at the beginning of the fall 2025 academic semester.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Two people were shot around Whitener and Louisiana Streets on Friday afternoon, May 9. According to Cape Girardeau Police Chief Adam Glueck, one person arrived at the hospital on their own, and the other was taken by ambulance. No word on the extent of their injuries. Deputies: City worker injured after vehicle passed others, hit tractor mowing on E. College St. in Energy

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - Deputies say a city worker was injured in a crash after a vehicle passed several other vehicles in a no-passing zone and hit a tractor mowing in the area. The driver of the vehicle, Bryan T. Braid, was cited for violation of no-passing zone and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash in the 700 block of East College Street in Energy around 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 8.
