The serious assault occurred near Rosie Hackett Bridge on Eden Quay in Dublin 1 at around 4.30pm. Emergency services attended to the man, who was brought to the Mater Misericordiae Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination. Another man, aged in his 30s was subsequently arrested and is detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the Dublin City area.

Around 100,000 visitors are expected to attend the five-day festival over the June bank holiday weekend, finishing on Monday. Celebrity chef Donal Skehan had a smashing time during his cooking demonstration at the festival over the weekend, when the stage oven shattered during his segment, sending glass and pieces of the oven towards the chef while cooking Korean chicken.

It is understood the runner was a young woman who was running the half-marathon race. She was attended to by emergency services at the scene close to the finish line on Cork’s Patrick’s Street, but later died. The full marathon commenced at 8.15am in the city centre, while the the half marathon commenced at 10.15am from Monahan Road. A 10k race was also part of the event. Road closures were rolled out across the city to facilitate the race.
