When Tania Alvarado looked around Columbus for the authentic food she and her family loved and remembered from her childhood in El Salvador, she came up short. So together, Tania and her husband, Edvin, created Calero’s Bar and Grill, a Salvadoran restaurant where their family could work and grow together.

Replicating a south Florida restaurant designed to evoke your favorite Mediterranean vacation at a mall in the Midwest is complicated. But in the capable hands of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, who have opened more than 100 restaurants across the country in the span of over 30 years, bringing Naples’ Del Mar to Easton (at the former Bon Vie Bistro location) just made good sense. Del Mar, meaning “of the sea,” is not strictly a seafood spot (though the restaurant offers plenty of it).

If you’re visiting Carfagna’s culinary campus in Polaris, however, I might suggest the opposite: Come hungry. For nearly 100 years, Carfagna’s has been a Columbus institution. Founder Saturnino “Sam” Carfagna opened his first market in Linden in 1937, specializing in live chickens and fresh meat.
