VACAVILLE — For more than a decade, Bob Vollmer's nickname was "Downtown Bob," serving as the executive director of the Downtown Vacaville Business Improvement District. He retired in 2017 and added "Music Man" to his moniker. A variety of downtown Vacaville businesses are sponsoring Town Square Music Thursdays, which kicks off this week with Casualties of Friendship. Vollmer plays in the band that was born when a group backed out of a downtown Vacaville performance at the last minute.

FAIRFIELD — It was more than double the love as community members, family and friends celebrated the life of former Mayor Chuck Hammond – the first Black mayor in the county. The Rev. Gary Hill, pastor of Christ-Centered Community opened the event telling the crowd in Willow Hall it was going to be "an extraordinary celebration for an extraordinary man."Hammond's family was honored with a proclamation from the city. It was accepted by Hammond's sons, Jeffrey Hammond and Roderick Hammond.

FAIRFIELD — The City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday to discuss reducing the number of traffic lanes on West Texas Street. The council is also expected to vote on resolution supporting shipbuilding in and efforts to attract shipbuilding to Solano County. It was coordinated with city managers from cities across the county. Following a series of community outreach events, at which about 300 people participated, the redesign of West Texas Street was listed as a high priority.
