    With the exception of a short trip to the Vatican to attend Pope Francis’ funeral, President Donald Trump has stayed stateside during the first three months of his second term. That will change Tuesday when the president begins a three-day visit to the Middle East to attend a series of meetings with Gulf Arab leaders and possibly drop in on a Gulf Cooperation Council summit. With the trip a week away, we still don’t know what Trump’s agenda is or what he seeks to accomplish.

    FAIRFIELD — Eight Solano County schools were selected to compete next week in the Sac-Joaquin Section softball playoffs. Vanden High School was the top seed among them. The Lady Vikings were given the No. 2 seed in Division III and will host No. 15 Christian Brothers on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Vanden is 17-4 and co-champions of the Monticello Empire League with a 10-2 record. The Lady Vikings enter the playoffs having won 13 straight games.

    DIXON — Charlie Massey walked around the antique Caterpillar exhibit like he was greeting old friends. "My dad used to buy up old farm equipment. He'd fix them up and resold them at the ranch. There were always a lot of Caterpillars," said Massey, 88, who grew up in Iowa and now lives in Napa with his son. The family raised pigs and grew corn. He is an Army veteran and retired mechanic/machinist.
