In December 2024, we were delighted to host a webinar to reflecton the Forum on Domestic Violence and the Operation of Article13(1)(b) of the 1980 Child Abduction Convention which was held inSandton, South Africa between 18 to 21 June 2024. The 1980 Hague Convention, which currently has 103 ContractingStates, is generally acknowledged as being a very successfulinstrument, and undoubtedly it has improved the situation forabducted children since its introduction.
There is still work to do in tackling forced marriage

A bill before the Iraqi parliament that will, if passed, reduce the marriageable age for girls from 18 to nine is a retrograde step for female rights. There is widespread concern that the development would inevitably lead to an increase in forced marriage, child rape and exploitation. And it would be wrong to think that individuals at risk from early marriage are limited to girls or those in Iraq.
