From Guyton to Clemson, and now the professional stage, former South Effingham standout Alex Brown is continuing her softball journey at the next level. Brown, who recently wrapped up a record-setting career at Clemson, signed with the New York Rise of the Fastpitch United Pro Series earlier this month. The move came shortly after she helped lead the Tigers to their first-ever Super Regional win.

Savannah native Justin Thomas Jr. showed why he’s one of college baseball’s rising stars during Arkansas’ run at the College World Series. The former Benedictine Military School standout finished the tournament with an impressive .571 batting average, going 8-for-14 with three RBIs and a double. In the semifinal against LSU, Thomas appeared to swing momentum Arkansas’ way with a two-run single in the top of the ninth inning.

Located just over three hours from Savannah, Coastal Carolina — a Sun Belt Conference rival of Georgia Southern — is back on college baseball’s biggest stage. The Chanticleers won both the Sun Belt regular-season and tournament titles and will now rep the conference when they take on LSU in the Men’s College World Series championship series starting Saturday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

Former Benedictine Military School lacrosse standout Liam Hogan is set to take the international stage this summer. The 20-year-old has been named to Ireland’s U-20 national team for the upcoming World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in South Korea. The tournament, which runs Aug. 15–24 in Seogwipo, will feature top teams from around the world. Hogan qualifies for the Irish squad through dual citizenship.
