New Hampstead senior Ra’Shawn Truell has been named the winner of the 72nd annual Ashley Dearing Award, which honors Savannah’s most versatile male high school athlete.Truell, a WJCL 22 Big 22 Member, starred as a three-sport athlete for the Phoenix, excelling in football, basketball and baseball — while also competing on the school’s boys volleyball club team.On the football field, the senior quarterback led the state of Georgia in regular season passing yards across all classifications.

The former Atlanta Falcons linebacker and current linebackers coach at Savannah Christian announced the Falcons' third-round pick at the 2025 NFL draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
