ARKANSAS, Kan. (KWCH) - Another contract for Friendship Meals and Meals on Wheels is set to end on Thursday, impacting the senior community in Arkansas City. The contract with the nonprofit, Everfull, is ending due to a financial disagreement. Everfull has already canceled similar programs in other counties. In a post on social media, Arkansas City’s senior center urges the community to prepare for a potential gap in meal services, but assures that they’re working to find a prompt solution.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - As temperatures rise across Kansas, Wichita shelters are stepping up to protect some of the city’s most vulnerable residents, those without a home. Union Rescue Mission, one of over a dozen shelters in the area, reports a noticeable uptick in people turning to them for help. CEO David Hodge says that one of the 1,400 men they’ve served on any given night, more than 800 are new faces.
