The Central government on Tuesday opposed states' plea in the Supreme Court seeking a refund of royalty levied by it on mines and mineral-bearing land since 1989, saying that the mining sector is the spinal cord of India's economy and any such ruling would have a multi-polar impact.Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the SC that the ruling could put a burden of over Rs 70,000 crore on public units. Without naming the company, Mehta said that the burden would be three times its net worth.

The profit of Kotak Mahindra Bank zoomed nearly 80 per cent in the first quarter of FY25, in part due to the completion of a deal in the general insurance sector with Zurich Insurance Group , the company said on Saturday.Zurich Insurance Group picked 70 per cent stake in Kotak General Insurance and the deal was completed in Q1FY25.
