The Central government on Tuesday opposed states' plea in the Supreme Court seeking a refund of royalty levied by it on mines and mineral-bearing land since 1989, saying that the mining sector is the spinal cord of India's economy and any such ruling would have a multi-polar impact.Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the SC that the ruling could put a burden of over Rs 70,000 crore on public units. Without naming the company, Mehta said that the burden would be three times its net worth.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking formation of a panel of medical experts from AIIMS , Delhi to study the Covishield vaccine and examine its side-effects, risk factors.The petitioner has sought the supervision of such a study by a retired SC judge.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that at this stage, it didn't want to say that Patanjali 's Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna were being let off the hook. They have been given a week to issue a public statement in the fake advertisements case."You are not so innocent that you did not know what we said in our earlier order," SC told Patanjali MD Balkrishna .

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to accept Patanjali Ayurved's Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna 'unconditional' apology affidavit while warning them to be ready to face action in the contempt case."Why should we not treat your apology with same disdain as shown to court undertaking? We are not convinced. Now going to turn down this apology," asked the SC bench."Now a message must go to society. Look at the reply of State. We are making it a part of your conduct.
