Every time I write about a place I've visited in Kentucky, it feels like a love letter. Since moving to this state (from right across the river in Cincinnati) almost two decades ago, my heart has slowly transformed into bluegrass. Every state has its faults, but there is so much to love about Kentucky. I live about an hour from Lexington, so we often take advantage of some of the fun events that take place in this charming city. Every October and April, we make sure to plan a day at Keeneland.

I have been to a lot of different campgrounds, but the Horse Cave KOA is certainly special to me. The whole campground is very clean and pretty but they also offer some of the coolest unique stays I have seen while camping. If you love unique stays in Kentucky, then you will want to add this to your bucket list. This KOA is also in an excellent location, which puts it within a short drive of some of my favorite places in the state.

With a list of things to love that numbers far larger than its popularity of 300, the tiny community of Slade leaves us hard-pressed to find a more fun, beautiful, remote town in Kentucky. (And if you want to be more hard-pressed—literally—there's always Fat Man's Squeeze, a super-narrow, rock-walled passageway at Natural Bridge State Resort Park nearby).
