Burnaby council is looking at a plan to evaluate which neighbourhoods within the city are at the most risk of wildfires and other extreme weather events. Five city councillors have put forward the motion, which would direct staff to identify parts of the city most at risk over the next 25 years. Staff would then establish appropriate land uses for those areas in the city's Official Community Plan.

The Vancouver Park Board is set to vote on a motion aimed at modernizing its mandate and safeguarding its future. It comes more than nine months after Vancouver city council passed a motion to dissolve the board and absorb its responsibilities into city hall. Park board chair Brennan Bastyovanszky says he has still seen no plan from the mayor and says action needs to be taken to deliver better service and engage with the community.

There is mounting frustration over emergency department closures at several hospitals throughout British Columbia due to long weekend staffing shortages. And while many are calling the situation intolerable, the province's health minister says "everything possible" is being done to fix it. Adrian Dix said the province has hired hundreds of doctors and nurses qualified to work in emergency rooms, but in many parts of B.C., those facilities are still seeing diversions.

Mike Hurley takes the chair's seat amid turmoil in the regional district over concerns about travel expenses and the massively over-budget North Shore Wastewater plant. In his opening remarks, Hurley told the board he has been reflecting on the body's ability to earn the trust and confidence of the region's residents.
