IntroductionAccording to the World Health Organization, PEL (primary effusion lymphoma) is a B-cell lymphoid proliferation related to Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus 8/human herpesvirus 8 (KSHV/HHV8) that affects mainly human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected individuals [1] . PEL accounts for approximately 4% of all HIV-related non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas (NHL) [2] [3] and up to half of the patients with PEL have a previous history of Kaposi sarcoma (KS) [4] .
