Natural gas forward pricing fell during the May 22-28 trading period, as consecutive triple-digit storage builds and sluggish near-term demand weighed on sentiment. June basis differentials strengthened substantially in the Rocky Mountains and Southern California, but weakened significantly in Appalachia, NGI’s Forward Look data show. Meanwhile, forward fixed prices fell across the curve, and at nearly all locations.

Natural gas demand in northwestern Mexico is poised to jump over the coming years, underscoring the need for more pipeline capacity from the Permian Basin to Sonora and Baja California states. Mexican state power company Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) is expanding its gas-fired generation fleet in the region, while Sempra’s Energía Costa Azul (ECA) Phase 1 LNG re-export terminal is set to begin commercial operations in spring 2026.
